WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF ME?
By: Dr. Mike Jones
What God requires and what some might think are two different things: some might think that all the Lord requires is the observance of certain rituals – like attending church on Sunday(s), and if I do this, God is going to bless ME with ‘stuff.’ And based on various erroneous teachings, such as, God wants us to be happy; a Christian should never get sick, and if they do, it’s because of a lack of faith; and He wants us to have a nice home, a fine car, and money in the bank – and that’s the good news of the Gospel! [Forget about ‘suffering for righteous sake – that went out with the early church!]
In a nutshell, what God requires of us is to:
* Do Justly – toward God according to His divine law [Matthew 7:21]. And toward Man according to His divine law [Ephesians 4:25-29].
* Love Mercy – show compassionate warm-heartedness toward man, widows and fatherless [James 1:27]. And even toward our enemies [Luke 6:35-36].
* To Walk Humbly with our God – to enjoy His fellowship and forgiveness [James 4:8; and 1John 1:7-9].
For this to happen, there must be a daily:
* Listening to God [James 1:21; and 1Peter 2:2]
* Talking to God [Hebrews 4:14-16]
* Walking with God [Ephesians 5:2]
