A TRUE DISCIPLE OF CHRIST HAS THREE “LOVES!”
By: Dr. Mike Jones
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
A disciple is a learner/a follower, as Jesus expressed in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
What Jesus expects of us, He expressed it through the Apostle Peter in 2Peter 1:5-8, “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I. THE THREE LOVES DEFINED
A TRUE DISCIPLE LOVES THE LORD … Jesus taught we should love God – Mt 22:37
A TRUE DISCIPLE LOVES THE BRETHREN … Jesus made this love a mark of true discipleship – John 13:34-35
