Things Christians Should Give Up To Be HAPPY!

By: Dr. Mike Jones

I hear people who aren’t believers say, “Dr. Mike, I just wanna be HAPPY!” And when a Believer says, “I wanna be HAPPY!” They are talking about two different things – well, they should be!

For Believers, Jesus’ first recorded sermon in the Bible is what makes God the Father Happy, and it should be our push to do those things here on Earth, that brings US JOY that He’s pleased: Amen! And keep in mind that God’s definition of being Happy doesn’t include us acquiring cars, homes, or money, but it does require a renewed mind and obedience.

God’s ultimate Happiness for His children is citizenship in the kingdom of God and an abiding JOY that can never be taken away. What makes God the Father Happy? When His children are doing what Jesus commanded US to do, especially in the Gospel of Matthews 5:1-10 (“B” Attitudes); Matthews 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Here Jesus is saying, “YOU WILL ONLY FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING KINGDOM PRINCIPLES!”

A well-known Bible Scholar, generated a list of things, if WE GIVE THEM UP, [while here on earth], will make our lives a lot easier and much happier going forth, until Jesus comes back for His church. He went on to say, “ We hold on to so many things that cause us a great deal of pain, stress and suffering – and instead of letting these things GO, to cause a more stress free life – we cling on to them.” What are some of them?:

1. Give up your need to always be right
There are so many of us who can’t stand the idea of being wrong – wanting to always be right – even at the risk of ending great relationships or causing a great deal of stress and pain, for us and for others.
2. Give up your need for control
Be willing to give up your need to always control everything that happens to you and around you.
3. Give up on blame
Give up on your need to blame others for what you have or don’t have, for what you feel or don’t feel. Stop giving your powers away and start taking responsibility for your life.
4. Give up the luxury of criticism
Give up your need to criticize things, events or people that are different than you. We are all different, yet we are all the same.
5. Give up your need to impress others
Stop trying so hard to be something that you’re not just to make others like you. It doesn’t work this way.
6. Give up your resistance to change
Change is good. Change will help you move from A to B. Change will help you make improvements in your life and also the lives of those around you.
7. Give up on your fears
Fear is just an illusion, it doesn’t exist – you created it. It’s all in your mind. Correct the inside and the outside will fall into place. [Remember: God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of a sound mind. Keep in mind, that God also gave us a natural fear of danger … when it’s approaching: He also gave us WISDOM – which is anointed common sense.]
8. Give up your excuses
Send them packing and tell them they’re fired. You no longer need them.
9. Give up the past
I know, I know. It’s hard. Especially when the past looks so much better than the present and the future looks so frightening.
10. Give up living your life to other people’s expectations
Way too many people are living a life that is not theirs to live. They live their lives according to what others think is best for them.
