Q: What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality?
Q: What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is homosexuality a sin?
A. Isn’t it interesting that the first major topic that God, through the writings of the Apostle Paul in Romans, Chapter 1, was the topic of homosexuality! Not only is the subject widely covered in the New Testament, but the Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin in the Old Testament. (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13) When disobedient people continue in sin and unbelief, God “turns them over to a reprobate mind” to even more wicked and depraved sin to show them what a sinful life is like apart from God. In 1 Corinthians 6:9 the word of God declares that homosexual “practitioners” will not inherit the kingdom of God.
A person cannot prove through scripture that God creates a person with homosexual tendencies/desires. The Bible tells us that people become homosexuals because of sin and the choices that they make. Because of the sin nature, we believe that a person can be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, as we can see, in terms of some people being born with a tendency to violence and other sins of the flesh. That does not excuse the person’s choosing to sin by giving in to sinful desires, such as homosexuality. What we need to remember is that forgiveness is availability to anyone living in a sinful state: Jesus is Lord and His blood is strong enough to cleanse the heart of mankind.
