WHAT IS THE TRUMPET OF GOD?
Q: Hey Dr. Mike, I’ve been enjoying the readings of the Endtime; and want to know your thought on the phrase, “The Trumpet of God.” Is the Bible talking about a literal trumpet sound, or is it referencing the voice of God?” And since I can’t get out to church on a regular basis, I’ve been enjoying Dr. Fred Price and your teachings!
A: Hi Ron; thank you from the heart: I will do my best to give you a sound Biblical answer to your text message.
The first reference to the word ‘trumpets’ in the Bible is found in the Old Testament in the Book of Exodus 19:19, “And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.” Notice, it said, “The voice of the trumpet,” was coming from God, not man! Of course, this scene takes place on Mount Sinai, when God [Himself] was giving Moses His Law [Ten Commandments] for His people.
The last Old Testament reference is found in Zechariah 9:14, “And the Lord shall be seen over them, and His arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.”
In the New Testament, the writings of the Apostles Paul and John indicate that ‘Believers’ shall soon hear the ‘Trumpet of God,’ in terms of the ‘Rapture of the church. In 1Thessalonians 4:16-17, “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
The Apostle John said in Revelation 1:10-11, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.” And again in 4:1, “After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”
Ron, it is evident from these passages in sacred Scripture, that “The Trumpet of God and the Voice of God” in these passages are the same!
