5 Common Excuses People Elect To Use When It Comes To Forgiving

By: Dr. Mike Jones
The Word of God ‘COMMANDS’ us to forgive one another, as expressed in Matthews 6:14-15, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” And some attempt to forgive with a grudging heart, when Ephesians 4:32 says, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Number One: The hurt is too big! The bigger the hurt the more you want to get rid of it, RIGHT???
Number Two: Time will heal it! Time heals nothing: all it does is to put a ‘scar over it – let someone bring it up, again, and watch the range of emotions.
Number Three: I’ll forgive when they say they’re sorry! If that’s the case, YOU will be waiting for Jesus to return. Why? Some people won’t apologize.
Number Four: I can’t forgive if I can’t forget it! You’re never going to forget it until you forgive.
Number Five: If I forgive them, they’re just going to do it again! Not your concerning: Just do what the Word of God instructs YOU to do!

Forgiveness is a decision of the will. Since God commands us to forgive, we must make a conscious choice to forgive. This frees the forgiving one from the past. Psalm 86:5, “For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.”
