Q: Jesus said “I Said, You Are Gods,” Does That Mean We Are “Little Gods” Here In The Earth?

Q: I’ve heard some people say that the phrase, “I said, you are gods,” quoted by Jesus in John 10:34, means: that we are “little gods” here in the earth: is this true?

A: That is indeed a good question, because I too, have heard it quoted the same way, numerous times, over the years. Upon further observation of the verse, knowing that it contains a greater meaning than what we read on the surface, you discover that Jesus is quoting from Psalm 82:6, where He is stating that Kings and Judges are set up by God to rule here in the earth (Romans 13) and you people treat them like gods. ThenHe uses a little folly (a play on words, like the time Nicodemus came to Him by night, asking questions, that he, as the Lead Rabbi, should have known the answers too. Jesus response to him was, “Nicodemus, you’re a master teacher here in Israel, and you don’t know the answer to these questions?”), by saying, “If human leaders can be called “gods,” certainly the Messiah can be called God.”
